1. Know why you are hurting. Know why you are hurting and respond accordingly. Are you hurting because of something that has happened in your history? Are you adding your history to the present moment and therefore adding fuel to something small and making it appear bigger? For example, if your mother has looked at you in a certain way since childhood and she’s looked at you in the same way today - do you react because of the way she looked today or the way she looked at you as a child? If it’s the latter, try reacting as if this was the first time you’d ever seen the look!

2. Laugh and make light of it. Laughter can be a wonderful cure and reliever. If you can keep light about a potential put-down then the put-down has no power. This doesn’t mean that you leave yourself open to abuse. What it does mean is that you can more easily brush off potentially hurtful comments.

3. Tell someone else about what was said and turn it into a funny story. Tell someone else what has happened and tell it in a way that makes it funny. Do a caricature - exaggerate what was said - think of a funny line back … build it up until it’s funny - this will help the hurt to dissipate.

4. Delay your response. Many people retaliate very quickly before they’ve had time to think through what has been said. It’s a bit like someone throwing something at you. Would you just stand there and let it hurt you or would you duck? Delaying is like ducking. Pause before you respond. Then you give yourself time to think of a good response and to check that you’re not adding hurt to what was said.

5. Think of the other person as being “unskilled” rather than being “intimidating,” “bossy” or “aggressive”. I’ll often say to myself, “Well that was an unskilled way of saying things, I wonder what she meant?” This helps me keep calm and non-reactive, yet still available to help the person.

6. Separate out what is specific to you. Sometimes people respond to a general complaint as if it is personally directed at them. Don’t do this. Work out what is specifically about you and what is a general complaint that you happen to get because you were in the same place as the other person? When it’s not specific to you, remind yourself of this, e.g. you might say to yourself, “This is about the company” or “He has obviously got a bad headache.”

Each of us will have physiological changes which occur early on in the process of becoming hurt. If you can catch your stomach tightening, your neck tightening or your hands grasping, early on, you have more chance of letting go and not hooking into the other person’s comments or emotions. 8. Keep breathing. Keep breathing in and out. No, I’m not joking! Some people hear something unpleasant and catch their breath and then don’t let go of it. You’re more likely to take something personally if you aren’t breathing!

9. Breathe deeply.Breathe deeply so your breathing remains calm, regular and deep. Even in a meeting it’s possible to put your hand on your midriff to give yourself a physical reminder to keep your breathing deep and regular. If your breathing speeds up and becomes shallow it could be a sign that you are getting hooked in.

10. Don’t read criticism into something that’s not intended as criticism. Don’t read in something that wasn’t there. It’s easy to try and “read between the lines” and imagine what someone meant or what they were implying and then to react as though your interpretation is true. It may not be. Someone, for example, may have crossed his arms to stop his shoulders aching not because they didn’t like what you said! Someone may be whispering to someone else as you walk in the room and you may assume they are talking about you. In fact they may be talking about their latest sexual exploits with their new boyfriends

By not getting hurt and looking after yourself, you increase your chances of staying healthy and having even more caring to give to others.

The dishes are in the dishwasher and you close the door. You hit the start button and nothing happens. What now?

First make sure the dishwasher is getting power. Check your fuse box for blown fuses. If you have circuit breakers, check to see if they are tripped. Make sure the dishwasher’s plug is secure in the outlet.

If power is not the problem, take a closer look at some of the electrical parts of your dishwasher. The most common part to fail is the door switch.

A door switch is used to start and stop your dishwasher. It’s a safety feature that won’t allow water to flow with the door open. With a faulty door switch, there is a chance your dishwasher won’t start at all.

Dishwasher door switches are about an inch long. They are usually black but can be red. There are metal prongs on the body of the switch called terminals. Some door switches have two terminals and some have three.

If your door switch is OK, check the timer assembly. This controls when and how long power is sent to other controls on your dishwasher. If these controls don’t receive power, they won’t work.

The timer assembly contains a motor. Check this motor as well. It is often cheaper just to replace the timer motor rather than the complete assembly.

My last suggestion is to check the cycle selector switches. These switches indicate cycles for washing, drying, and setting the temperature of the water. If one of your switches is the problem your dishwasher may not start.

Dishwasher cycle selector switches tell the timer which cycle to run by opening and closing electrical circuits. Most selector switches are six to eight inches long. They are usually black and have terminals.

By testing each one of these parts with an ohmmeter you should be able to determine why your dishwasher is not working. It is possible for other parts to fail but these are the most common parts to check.

For those who feed the raw diet to your pets and claim
that they do not need vegetables and fruits in their diets,
I beg to differ. Let’s examine the actual “diet” of the
wild canines and felines.

They do, indeed, hunt their meat “on the hoof,” as it were,
but they do not, I suspect, empty the stomach contents of
their prey, nor the bowels of their prey, before consuming
it. At least, not entirely. That is one of their sources of vegetable matter. You think they don’t need it? Have your dogs ever eaten the feces of other animals? Why do you suppose that might be? Because they crave the vegetable matter, perhaps?

Many years ago, we had a beagle-terrier mix that ran loose.
She was free to eat the kibble dog food we provided, or
hunt. We know that she hunted rabbits, squirrels and other
wild prey. But, I was amazed to see her, one day, laying
in the field in front of our house eating something. I got
closer and she was eating a windfall apple. This was in a
time before mankind was filling all our foods with hormones
and preservatives; when wild and domestic meats were more
‘organic.’

So, why would this dog be eating apples by choice? Perhaps
because that was a part of the natural diet of the species?
Have you ever observed your cats and dogs eating grass? It
is commonly thought they do that to settle their stomachs
for some reason, but I suggest that they do that as a part
of their natural diet. Just as humans need a variety of
sources of vitamins and minerals, I cannot imagine that the
canines and felines in our lives don’t need the same. Research indicates they do.

I am not a veterinarian, nor a scientist, simply an
observer of my companion animals. The mother of my current
Border Terrier gave me a mystery in 2003. I had planted one single tomato plant in my little garden plot, thinking that it was only for me. As the tomatoes ripened, I noticed that several came up missing. I thought that someone walking along the road was stealing them.

What I observed, finally, was this Border Terrier bitch
eating my nearly ripe tomatoes. While I do not feed a raw
diet, I do feed a decent premium kibble that has chicken
and rice as the first two ingredients. Rice is known to be
one of the less allergenic of the grains. I suspect that
the other grains are allergenic because of the things that
mankind does to them before they are fed to any animals, in
any form (and humans).

While I don’t disagree that a raw diet of natural meats
would be beneficial to dogs and cats, I do disagree that
they do not need fruits, vegetables or carbohydrates as
part of their natural diet.

What they don’t need, and neither do we humans, are the
chemicals and hormones added to the feed of commercially
raised animals. It is my sincere belief that these
additives are not only detrimental to their health, they
are detrimental to our own.

There are two types of houses you can buy from people in foreclosure: those with equity and those with no equity. This article is about a system I designed for those situations where the house you’re looking to invest in has equity and the homeowner in foreclosure wants some cash for their equity.

Let’s say there is $50k in equity. You’re going to make an offer that includes $5,000 for the homeowner if the homeowner has brought up the need for cash to you. You get the homeowner to agree to take $5,000 for the equity in the house. But the bank cannot know that the homeowner is getting any amount of money or the deal is dead.

This is where the Bill of Saleor the “BOSS” Systemcomes in.

Here’s an example of how this works:

After negotiation, the homeowner has agreed to take $5,000 for $50,000 worth of equity. You’ve done a good job, because you’re going to buy it at a discount.

As you sit there with the homeowner, you explain the BOSS system like this:

“Mr. Homeowner, you and I have come up with an agreement that is acceptable for both of us. I agree to pay you $5,000 for your equity in the house. We agree on this, correct?”

“Yes.”

“However, you need to understand, the bank does not want to know that you’re getting any money. If they do, they will reject the proposal.

“So what I’d like to do is buy that television sitting right there for $5,000. I will produce a bill of sale for that. I will pay you $5,000 for the television. And by the way, and I hope it’s ok with you, but if the television is not here when I come to the house, after you move, I’m not going to worry about it.”

So what you’re telling the homeowner is, you’re going to give him $5,000 for the deal, they take their TV, and you’ve got a deal. You give them a promissory note for the TV for $5,000, contingent upon a successful sale of the property to your company. You give them a Bill of Sale as well, so you can record it as a transaction, as a cost of doing business.

Once the property is sold to your company, the homeowner can, if they have to, place a lien against the property for $5,000 so just get them the money as quickly as you can. The homeowner wants to know that they’re going to be protected. You tell them that you’re going to have that $5,000 for them upon the purchase of the property.
