Some of the Common Myths about B.tox Procedures

Posted by admin - December 8th, 2009

Botulinum therapy (abbreviated to BoTox) has become ingrained in Sydney society and now it has become a grooming must for a lot of individuals in Sydney.

But I am often amazed by the stories surrounding this uncomplicated treatment.

I have listed below some of the myths that we encounter everyday at Star Cosmetic Medicine, where I practise as a doctor.

Myth no. 1: I will not be able to express myself normally!

For more pointers, we recommend you surf to our extensive source for Sydney Botox costs guidelines.

The human face has sixty or so muscles. They usually work in harmony, however from continual movement expression lines can begin to form. If too much BoTox is injected facial muscles can become a liile bit less taut. Most doctors would use relatively low quantities to make you look refreshed, yet you will maintain your normal expression.

Therefore a carefully measured dosage of BoTox in the appropriate site means one should achieve a reduction in any fine lines and wrinkles without any compromise in facial expression.

Myth no. 2: Botulinum is poisonous!
There is a little truth in this statement. Botulinum Toxin Type A is the exact scientific nomenclature. An overdose may loosen facial muscles that you do not want relaxed and even may cause sickness.

However to help us grasp the bigger picture: an ancient pharmacy saying states that ‘everything is a poison - all depending on the dose’. Every medication may make you unwell in big enough quantities. If you drink too much water you will die.

Myth no. 3: Wrinkle injections hurt!
The needles used at Star Cosmetic Medicine have a diameter less than a human hair. A lot of people have said that the injections are not as painful as getting bit by a bug. Certainly not as painful as having a vaccination.

Myth no. 4: My face will feel numb!
Not true. BoTox works principally on the junction between the nerve and the facial muscle, not sensate nerve fibers. BoTox just affects the ability to relax muscles.

Myth no. 5. You must keep getting BoTox otherwise you will have worse wrinkles than ever!
This is also false.

BoTox is expected to last for upwards of 3 months. Any treatments after the initial consultation should be effective for a few weeks longer. Gradually as muscle strength builds up again - the wrinkles will slowly re-emerge. However they certainly will not be any worse than before the treatment.

Even should you do not have BoTox injections ever again - those lines should be less pronounced than if you hadn’t undergone the treatment. In the main because your facial muscles and skin have had a ‘wrinkle holiday’ whilst the BoTox was working.
