Women’s Guide: Fashion Trends For Summer 2005

Posted by admin - May 24th, 2008

If you are like me and many others the warm weather motivates
you to do or try new things. It even inspires you to pay more
attention to your overall appearance. But, before you go
shopping I suggest you take a look at this list to see what is
in style.

• Cropped pants - If you see pants that are too long to classify
in the shorts category and too short to qualify as the regular
long pants those are referred as cropped pants. They fit inches
below the knee but, are placed above the ankle.

• Natural hair - Good news for ladies with curly or wavy hair.
Curls are in; all you have to do is wash your hairs apply some
gel or mousse and blow dry with a diffuser. For define curls
utilize hair rollers.

• Color crazy- Bright colors are in for 2005. Some of the most
common are kiwi, turquoise, coral, fuchsia, mango, yellow, aqua,
melon, violet and many more… Do not ignore some of the regular
pastel colors such as light pink. White should always be in your
ward robe during the summer season.

• Knee length skirts- They come in all styles from pleated to
form fitting.

• Cuffed pants- Many of the cuffed pants are also cropped.

• Tunics- They will not only give you a different look. You will
also feel comfortable and cool.

• Prints, patterns and stripes, embroidered etc. are in this
summer. So, do not be afraid to buy a blouse with floral print
(any type of prints).

• About the fabric- Silk is definitely in style. Do not be
surprise to see a lot of lace jewels, beads, rhinestones etc. on
clothes.

• Accessorize- You will find anything from drop earrings to
beaded and wooded jewelry. Other very popular accessories are
brooches, variety of buckle belts, pendants, neck silk scarfs
and many more. Just make sure that you do not over accessorize.

• Shoes- Comfort is also chic now. I have never seen such a
variety of thong sandals. Mules, flip flops, flats, and
moccasins are “a la mode” also. Wedges are good for the ladies
that like to wear higher shoes; they are comfortable as long as
you are able to sustain balance.

Erectile Dysfunction Is a Common Problem of Men with Diabetes

Posted by admin - May 7th, 2008

Erectile dysfunction is a common problem for more than half of men with diabetes. A recent study from the Brady Urological Institute at Johns Hopkins suggests that an over-supply of a simple blood sugar could be a major cause of erectile dysfunction in diabetic men.

Describing the mechanism of erection, the research team has determined that high glucose in diabetes mellitus is an interrupting factor of this process.

Erection begins when a sexual stimulus activates the enzyme neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) that causes short-term release of nitric oxide (NO) at the nerve endings in the penis.

This initial release of NO causes short-term and rapid increases in penile blood flow and short-term relaxation of the penile smooth muscle, initiating an erection. The resulting expansion of penile blood vessels and smooth-muscle relaxation allows more blood to flow into the penis. This increased blood flow (shear stress) activates the eNOS in penile blood vessels causing sustained NO release, continued relaxation and full erection.

O-GlcNAc, a blood sugar present in hyperglycemic (high blood sugar) circumstances, hinders this normal chain of events by inhibiting the activation of eNOS, and consequently reducing the release of NO and preventing the smooth muscle in the penis from relaxing. Without this relaxation, there is no shear stress to stoke the production of more NO and therefore, no normal, sustained erection.

This is not the same type of erectile dysfunction seen in non-diabetics, and it is less effectively treated with conventional drugs like Viagra. The mechanism described above stresses the critical importance of vascular function in the erectile response. It may suggest new ways of treating erectile dysfunction by targeting specifically this mechanism in penile erection.

Endometriosis

Posted by admin - April 5th, 2008

Many people don’t know that endometriosis is one of the most common causes of pelvic pain and infertility in women. Endometriosis is defined as a painful, chronic disease where tissue that should only be found inside the uterus is found somewhere else inside the body. The areas that can be affected include the bowels, intestines, appendix, ovaries, and the pelvic sidewall.

The misplaced tissue reacts to menstruation just as it should: it builds up, breaks down and sheds, but it cannot leave the body and provokes internal bleeding, inflammation, pain, infertility, and bowel problems depending on the area of the body where it appeared. It can also create ovarian cysts, called edometrioma that can interfere with ovulation.

To be able to properly diagnose endometriosis, it is necessary for a woman to review her medical history and have a pelvic exam. Next, a surgical procedure called laparoscopy can complete the diagnosis and classify the woman in one of the four stages that catalog the disease: 1 (minimal), 2 (mild), 3 (moderate) or 4 (extensive). This involves removing and analyzing a portion of suspect tissue. After the diagnosis is complete, the doctor will recommend treatment. Treatment can include pain medication, surgery or hormone therapy. Endometriosis is not always diagnosed right away since the women or doctors may see it as normal during the menstrual circle.

The cause of endometriosis is unknown, although researchers do have some theories. More than 5 million women are affected in the United States and Canada alone.
