My Dishwasher is Not Starting - What Can It Be?

Posted by admin - August 28th, 2008

The dishes are in the dishwasher and you close the door. You hit the start button and nothing happens. What now?

First make sure the dishwasher is getting power. Check your fuse box for blown fuses. If you have circuit breakers, check to see if they are tripped. Make sure the dishwasher’s plug is secure in the outlet.

If power is not the problem, take a closer look at some of the electrical parts of your dishwasher. The most common part to fail is the door switch.

A door switch is used to start and stop your dishwasher. It’s a safety feature that won’t allow water to flow with the door open. With a faulty door switch, there is a chance your dishwasher won’t start at all.

Dishwasher door switches are about an inch long. They are usually black but can be red. There are metal prongs on the body of the switch called terminals. Some door switches have two terminals and some have three.

If your door switch is OK, check the timer assembly. This controls when and how long power is sent to other controls on your dishwasher. If these controls don’t receive power, they won’t work.

The timer assembly contains a motor. Check this motor as well. It is often cheaper just to replace the timer motor rather than the complete assembly.

My last suggestion is to check the cycle selector switches. These switches indicate cycles for washing, drying, and setting the temperature of the water. If one of your switches is the problem your dishwasher may not start.

Dishwasher cycle selector switches tell the timer which cycle to run by opening and closing electrical circuits. Most selector switches are six to eight inches long. They are usually black and have terminals.

By testing each one of these parts with an ohmmeter you should be able to determine why your dishwasher is not working. It is possible for other parts to fail but these are the most common parts to check.

Building Large Volume of Potentiel Customers is Critical

Posted by admin - August 21st, 2008

How many opportunities to expose people to your business do you miss everyday? Do the people you come in contact with regularly or randomly in your daily routine know about your business? If not, you’re missing MANY golden opportunities to “fill your pipeline”.

Every successful business is familiar with the concept of “filling the pipeline”. You should be familiar with it, too! It’s an important practice in building any kind of successful business. “Filling the pipeline” means building as large a volume of potential customers as possible. Why? Because every business is a numbers business! The more people that know about your business the more successful your business is likely to be.

As you expose people to your business, they are entering your “pipeline”. As you follow up with them or as their circumstances and needs change, they move through your “pipeline”; and many eventually pop out the other end as customers or as associates in your business.

Traditional businesses advertise to fill their “pipelines”. You can advertise too but advertising is expensive, impersonal and not always as productive as you wish. Maximizing your everyday encounters is personal, inexpensive AND very productive! All it takes to maximize your everyday encounters to “fill your pipeline” is to start putting your business card in the hands of as many people as possible!

Just look at how easy it is to put your business card in the hands of the people you come in contact with on a daily basis:

Scenario #1: Someone you know.

(After your normal conversation). Oh, by the way, if you get a chance check out my new website! (Then hand them your business card).

Note: This approach can be added to the end of just about any type of conversation. This approach will often times pique the person’s curiosity enough to ask about it, visit it, or both! Bingo! They’re in your “pipeline”!!

Scenario #2: Someone you don’t know. (Ex: someone in a check out line with you, someone waiting on you while shopping or eating etc.)

(After you thank them for their service). Oh, by the way I’m looking for some unbiased feedback on my new website. (Hand them your business card) If you get a chance and can take a look I’d appreciate it. There’s a contact link on the site you can use to use to tell me what you think.

It doesn’t take much imagination to visualize the potential of these approaches to “filling your pipeline”! There are plenty of ways to expose masses of people to your business and there’s a place for that in your business plan. Just be sure you’re not missing the daily opportunities to expose people to your business.

Make it a practice to never leave home without a pocket-full or purse-full of your business cards and become proficient in tactfully handing them out during the course of you normal everyday activities. If you do, you’ll have a “pipeline” that will propel your business to a level of success others will envy and you’ll enjoy!

No Fruit?

Posted by admin - August 21st, 2008

For those who feed the raw diet to your pets and claim
that they do not need vegetables and fruits in their diets,
I beg to differ. Let’s examine the actual “diet” of the
wild canines and felines.

They do, indeed, hunt their meat “on the hoof,” as it were,
but they do not, I suspect, empty the stomach contents of
their prey, nor the bowels of their prey, before consuming
it. At least, not entirely. That is one of their sources of vegetable matter. You think they don’t need it? Have your dogs ever eaten the feces of other animals? Why do you suppose that might be? Because they crave the vegetable matter, perhaps?

Many years ago, we had a beagle-terrier mix that ran loose.
She was free to eat the kibble dog food we provided, or
hunt. We know that she hunted rabbits, squirrels and other
wild prey. But, I was amazed to see her, one day, laying
in the field in front of our house eating something. I got
closer and she was eating a windfall apple. This was in a
time before mankind was filling all our foods with hormones
and preservatives; when wild and domestic meats were more
‘organic.’

So, why would this dog be eating apples by choice? Perhaps
because that was a part of the natural diet of the species?
Have you ever observed your cats and dogs eating grass? It
is commonly thought they do that to settle their stomachs
for some reason, but I suggest that they do that as a part
of their natural diet. Just as humans need a variety of
sources of vitamins and minerals, I cannot imagine that the
canines and felines in our lives don’t need the same. Research indicates they do.

I am not a veterinarian, nor a scientist, simply an
observer of my companion animals. The mother of my current
Border Terrier gave me a mystery in 2003. I had planted one single tomato plant in my little garden plot, thinking that it was only for me. As the tomatoes ripened, I noticed that several came up missing. I thought that someone walking along the road was stealing them.

What I observed, finally, was this Border Terrier bitch
eating my nearly ripe tomatoes. While I do not feed a raw
diet, I do feed a decent premium kibble that has chicken
and rice as the first two ingredients. Rice is known to be
one of the less allergenic of the grains. I suspect that
the other grains are allergenic because of the things that
mankind does to them before they are fed to any animals, in
any form (and humans).

While I don’t disagree that a raw diet of natural meats
would be beneficial to dogs and cats, I do disagree that
they do not need fruits, vegetables or carbohydrates as
part of their natural diet.

What they don’t need, and neither do we humans, are the
chemicals and hormones added to the feed of commercially
raised animals. It is my sincere belief that these
additives are not only detrimental to their health, they
are detrimental to our own.

Foreclosure Investing Using the BOSS System

Posted by admin - August 19th, 2008

There are two types of houses you can buy from people in foreclosure: those with equity and those with no equity. This article is about a system I designed for those situations where the house you’re looking to invest in has equity and the homeowner in foreclosure wants some cash for their equity.

Let’s say there is $50k in equity. You’re going to make an offer that includes $5,000 for the homeowner if the homeowner has brought up the need for cash to you. You get the homeowner to agree to take $5,000 for the equity in the house. But the bank cannot know that the homeowner is getting any amount of money or the deal is dead.

This is where the Bill of Saleor the “BOSS” Systemcomes in.

Here’s an example of how this works:

After negotiation, the homeowner has agreed to take $5,000 for $50,000 worth of equity. You’ve done a good job, because you’re going to buy it at a discount.

As you sit there with the homeowner, you explain the BOSS system like this:

“Mr. Homeowner, you and I have come up with an agreement that is acceptable for both of us. I agree to pay you $5,000 for your equity in the house. We agree on this, correct?”

“Yes.”

“However, you need to understand, the bank does not want to know that you’re getting any money. If they do, they will reject the proposal.

“So what I’d like to do is buy that television sitting right there for $5,000. I will produce a bill of sale for that. I will pay you $5,000 for the television. And by the way, and I hope it’s ok with you, but if the television is not here when I come to the house, after you move, I’m not going to worry about it.”

So what you’re telling the homeowner is, you’re going to give him $5,000 for the deal, they take their TV, and you’ve got a deal. You give them a promissory note for the TV for $5,000, contingent upon a successful sale of the property to your company. You give them a Bill of Sale as well, so you can record it as a transaction, as a cost of doing business.

Once the property is sold to your company, the homeowner can, if they have to, place a lien against the property for $5,000 so just get them the money as quickly as you can. The homeowner wants to know that they’re going to be protected. You tell them that you’re going to have that $5,000 for them upon the purchase of the property.

The Hows and Whys of Vintage Clothes Shopping

Posted by admin - August 17th, 2008

Why Vintage?

Why would anyone want to wear vintage clothing? First of all, it’s fun! When you wear vintage, you stand out from the crowd. The chances of someone else wearing the same exact outfit to that special event are slim to none. More and more high school girls are shopping vintage for dances and proms because it guarantees originality. Yasmine, a vintage clothing collector from Los Angeles, says, “I wear vintage so I can add a little something authentically retro to my clothing and not look the same as everyone else, which is difficult in style-conscious L.A..”

Vintage clothing is also nostalgic. Remember the good old days when there were party lines and soda shops? Me neither, but wearing vintage gives a girl the chance to experience a small part of history. In today’s ambiguous world, it feels nice to pull on a crinoline and full feminine skirt once in a while. Let’s face it: grown-up girls like to play dress up, too!

For the thrifty, the prices on vintage items should be incentive enough. Local thrift stores, flea markets, and yard sales are excellent sources of old clothing at unbelievable prices. Broke? Go volunteer to help clean out grandma’s attic! I’ve gotten several vintage pieces handed down to me since I began collecting about two years ago.

Online Shopping

The internet has made it easy for vintage clothing enthusiasts to comparison shop and buy items that may not be available in their area. Type “vintage clothing” into any search engine and you’ll get hundreds of results. There are a few things you should know before purchasing vintage wear online, however.

Carol, owner of Dandelion Vintage, a fun and inexpensive online Vintage Clothing shop based in New Jersey, recommends that first-time buyers be aware of what it means to buy and wear vintage clothing. “It’s not like something new and fresh from Macy’s, it’s going to feel different and smell differently (there is no “new” clothing smell) and the items do need to be treated a little more carefully,” she said, adding that customers should always ask questions up front about the garments, especially if they are unsure of the size or condition. When shopping vintage online, she says, be sure to read the site’s terms of sales, ordering procedure, and return policy before ordering.

There are many different styles and eras to choose from. Items from the late 19th century on up through the 1980’s are available. Whatever your style, you’re sure to find something to suit you. Carol suggests customers buy what they like and avoid following trends, which is excellent advice when it comes to collecting of any type.

Making it Work

Vintage clothing can be teamed up with modern apparel or mixed and matched with other vintage pieces. Back in L.A. Yasmine says, “I find that wearing head to toe vintage is just not practical in day to day life, but by adding a few pieces I can create a look that is uniquely my own. I often buy high-end designer shoes and team them with a $1.00 vintage dress and a Gap cardigan. The look is pulled together and definitely mine.”

There you have it: vintage clothes are fun, affordable, and enable the wearer to create and maintain an original look. So what are you waiting for? Go shopping!

Understanding The Mortgage: Adjustable Or Fixed?

Posted by admin - August 13th, 2008

The mortgage is not one simple thing. There are many types of them and they each offer different advantages to those that are looking for one. Purchasing a home is one of the largest investments that you will ever make during your life time. It is ideal to make sure that you make this investment carefully and to the best of your ability. One thing about them that you will want to understand is whether you should go with an adjustable or a fixed type of loan. The differences may seem confusing, but they are very important nonetheless.

When considering a mortgage, you may first want to consider such things as the interest rates and the terms of the loan. Yet, there are other elements to think about as well. Once you find the lender that is offering you the best rates out there, look at what types of rates he may be able to provide you with. Here’s a break down.

Fixed Rate

Any mortgage that has a fixed rate is one that has an interest rate that is not going to change. It will remain the same today as it will be down the road and throughout the course of the loan. It can be ideal to use this type of mortgage in most cases. It is especially helpful when interest rates are tending to slide up the scale. If you get a loan that is fixed while rates are climbing, then you will be secured into that low rate throughout the course of your loan, no matter what other rates do. In most cases, the fixed rate will be slightly higher than that of an adjustable but in the long run it may save you money.

Adjustable Rate

There are also many reasons why you may decide that an adjustable will work well for you. Besides being less expensive in the long term, they are also ideal for when interest rates are high and are falling. When interest rates are higher, securing an adjustable rate loan will allow you to take advantage of the slipping that they are doing. These are ever changing rates though, so if the rates tend to climb, you may be in trouble. One thing to note about them, though, is that they are generally not going to move up or down more than 5% and there is a lock of fluctuation per year at 1%. Carefully consider this option in a mortgage.

When considering either of these two options in home loans, carefully look at what the financial market is expected to do. You may even want to talk to your financial advisor about the difference and how likely it is to effect your situation. Remember too that interest rates fluctuate quarterly most of the time. They also vary from one lender to the next. You will want to consider the big picture here so that you can find the most ideal solution for your specific needs. An adjustable rate or a fixed rate mortgage quote can be given to help you to see what the end result for each will be.

Home Equity Loan: Access the Equity Built in Your Home

Posted by admin - August 8th, 2008

Taking home equity loans depend on the current needs and desires that prompt you to go for home equity loans as the first choice. Home equity loan has become a fast-track way of paying down debt consolidation, for home improvement, for higher education, unexpected family emergencies, medical expenses, etc.

Home equity loans are secured against the equity in your home. Home equity is the sum total of two things:

• The down payment and the monthly repayment that the borrower i.e., the homeowner has made against the total mortgage balance on his or her home.

• The amount with which the property has appreciated in price will also affect the homeowner equity.

Many of us think that for taking home equity loans, you will have to sell the house. But it’s absolutely wrong. Being a homeowner, you can take home equity loan without selling your home. The value of your home will determine the loan amount and the rate of interest. If you want loans at low interest rate, you will have to offer high equity collateral.

In Home equity loans, bad credit report does not make too much difference. Bad credit is common now-a-days. But, having a good credit record can definitely fetch you loan at comparatively low rate of interest.

Once you have calculated the value of your home, it’s now time to apply for the loan. For applying home equity loans, you should bring with you the credit card or some other document for identity purpose. Lenders offer home equity loans with competitive rates on interest. So, market survey is a must. Choose the lender who provides you the best loan deal.

So You Want Your Site To Be Number 1

Posted by admin - August 7th, 2008

You have products or services you want to sell? You want to use the internet as your main publicity vehicle? So you want a website? You want to sit atop the rankings for the search engines? You want loads of visitors to your site? You want a high conversion rate from visitors to paying customers? We are all in that situation and it is possible to achieve all of these wants by following a few simple rules.

1. Web Site Design.

Keep it simple with no flashy opening graphics. People searching for products or services do not want to wait while these graphics load and play through. They will probably have gone elsewhere before they get to the ‘nitty gritty’ of your site. Text based sites load faster, are more search engine friendly and are more likely to contain information the visitor is searching for. Base your site on plenty of good text and keep the graphics to the absolute minimum required to do the job.

2. Web Site Structure.

Produce as many pages as you can. The bigger the better.. Search Engines give a preference to sites with large numbers of pages. Plan a straightforward navigation path through these pages. Make it simple for people to find what they are looking for on your site and easy to click through onto different pages.

3. Web Site Content

Good quality content is a necessity if your site is to perform well. So what makes good quality content? Firstly it has to be well written from the point of view of grammar and punctuation. Secondly it must contain information into which your keywords can be embedded. Telling people how marvellous your products or services are is not good quality. Telling them what the likely benefits are to them is good quality and a better sales pitch into the bargain. Put yourself in the position of a visitor. Does your site tell them how to solve their problem? Is it informative and easy to read? It should be.

4. Search Engine Positions

Submit to as many free directories as you can find. Look at your competitors backlinks and find sites that you can also submit to. Develop some reciprocal links with related sites. What constitutes a related site is quite flexible so think carefully about these before committing to a link. Link with a wide range of sites with differing page rank values do not only choose those with high page ranks. The bulk of the links should be page rank 3 or 4. Develop a weblog attached to your site and keep this updated, at least once per week. This will attract the search engines to spider your site and will also attract in more links. Write and publish articles which will bring in large numbers of inbound links and by putting them onto your site will update and increase your content.

Four basic rules have been outlined above which if carried through should eventually see your ‘wants’ gratified. However I have only skimmed the surface as each of these topics are several articles in themselves, but you should be able to easily find information about each of them. Take on board the advice and your site will be one of the successful ones.
